Mikayla Deigan is a second year Ph.D. student in the Geosciences department working in the tropical climate and coral reefs lab under the supervision of Professor Diane Thompson. Her research focuses on improving coral-based paleoclimate reconstructions by understanding how temperature-related stress impacts the geochemical climate signals found in coral skeletons. She earned her B.S. in Geology from the University of California, Davis. Mikayla grew up in California’s Central Valley, where annual family camping trips to the coast sparked her interest in ocean science. Her deep passion for sustainability led her to climate science, where she hopes to connect her research with action to protect critical marine ecosystems.
