2023-2024 Cohort

The 2023-2024 cohort of Carson Scholars consists of 14 UArizona graduate students with a wide range of identities, ages, and experiences. The academic makeup of this cohort includes:

  • 1 JD student, 2 MFA students, 11 Ph.D students
  • Students from the following colleges and disciplines:
    • College of Science
    • College of Social and Behavioral Sciences
    • College of Law
    • College of Engineering
    • College of Agriculture and Life Sciences
    • College of Fine Arts

Carson Scholars in Action

In Spring 2024, these 14 scholars engaged with the community throughout the semester to learn from experts in the community and educate the public in a variety of ways including:

  • Presenting Environment Talks
    • Two talks at the Tumamoc Hill boathouse featuring three scholars each
    • Five scholars presented to the Carson community and potential donors in April
    • Several scholars participated in public outreach events such as the Tucson Festival of Books and SEES Earth Week
    • All scholars presented their elevator speeches at their April graduation
  • Writing essays for Terrain.org
    • Scholars have continued working with their faculty and peer mentors throughout the Spring semester to write their articles to be published on Terrain.org. We should expect to see these published soon!
  • Attending workshops with community experts including
    • Dr. Diana Liverman
    • Dr. Faith Kearns
    • Faculty mentors Hea-Ream Lee and Dr. Rachel Gallery
