María (Mery) Touceda-Suárez is a PhD candidate in the department of Environmental Science. Originally from Spain, Mery has been an international student at the UofA for three years now. She previously obtained a B.A. in Human Biology at the Pompeu Fabra University – Barcelona (Spain) and a M.Sc. in Bioinformatics at the University of Copenhagen (Denmark). Her research aims to understand the role of soil microorganisms in soil health and soil resilience in drylands. She is currently studying the impact that human land use has on soil microbial communities integrating microbial ecology and bioinformatics.
