Huiqi Zhang is a third-year Ph.D. student in the Department of East Asian Studies, with a research focus on urban studies, environmental studies, animal studies, political ecology, new materialism, and science fiction. Framing waste as both a material and symbolic agent, Huiqi's research particularly focuses on the disposal and recycling of electronic waste in China, as well as various narratives surrounding waste. 

Before coming to the University of Arizona, Huiqi received a master’s degree in Critical Asian Humanities from Duke University and a bachelor’s degree in Chinese Language and Literature from Beijing Foreign Studies University in China.  

She also serves as a Graduate Associate at the Title VI National Resource Center for East Asian Studies, helping with outreach activities such as producing podcasts and visiting K-12 schools to promote local communities’ understanding of East Asian languages and cultures.
