Sarah Kelly-Richards

Sarah Kelly-Richards is a Ph.D. student in the School of Geography and Development. Her current research examines conflict resolution and social equity in Chilean water governance. Drawn to geography for its interdisciplinary approach to pressing social and environmental issues, Sarah plans to study the climatic and institutional factors intensifying conflicts among multiple water users in Chile in order to translate findings into relevant policy recommendations. She recently completed her master’s thesis, in which she conducted participatory research with technical students and community members on sanitation, water provision, and land tenure on the U.S.-Mexico border. With a long-standing interest in digital storytelling and multimedia-based advocacy, Sarah looks forward to gaining new skills and insight from the Carson Scholars Program. Ultimately, she hopes to incorporate digital storytelling into her dissertation research with the goal of disseminating globally significant stories of water governance while also contributing to others telling their own stories for change.
